Biography:

                           Artist- Kevin L. Caldwell

Kevin is a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College where he received a Bachelors degree in Fine Art in Painting and Drawing in 2001.  He resides in the promise land of Louisville , KY, with his wife Nicole and four children, Kaija, Malaki, Karyss, and Azaryah.

Kevin’s life thus far has been filled with much cultural diversity.  In his younger years he accompanied his hippie father on a frugal lifestyle in southern California , where living out of a van in campgrounds was the norm.  Later after graduating from a conservative northern Ohio high school, Kevin would find his way to the urban life of Cincinnati, Ohio .  In Cinci, Kevin would discover his own free spirit, which he encountered so many years before in his father.  Nonetheless, the one essential value learned in his life has been the importance of individuality and personal expression.

Kevin is a professional through and through with everything he sets out to accomplish.  At a young age his Father instilled an incredible work ethic and willingness to succeed in whatever endeavor he set his mind to. Kevin embraced the following advice his father gave him years ago, "If you are going to do something, don't do it half way, do it with all your heart, or don't do it at all!"

This attitude of professionalism is evident in every of his life, from his accomplishments as a Collegiate All-American Cyclist back in 1998 while racing for Lindsey Wilson College, to the high moral standards and principles he models to his children and encourages them to live by today.

Kevin loves to work on large scale and is an expert in materializing someone’s vision of artwork into reality and often hears from his clients that the completed work is far better than they ever conceived. Kevin works meticulously and exhaustingly to achieve satisfaction from himself and from his clients.

Most of Kevin’s artwork is meant to raise the awareness of the traps society blindly sways people into.  It also celebrates the liberty we have as individuals to pursue our own destiny free from the ideals, influences and upheavals that our society places on us and also brainwashes us with intentionally or inadvertently. Kevin wants people to ask themselves questions like:

What are you living for?  What has society placed in your mind to be of utmost importance and is it worth spending your entire life striving to achieve it?

Some of Kevin’s works may be seen as dark and pessimistic, because of the drab earth tones and choice of subject matter.  On the contrary they are meant to be positive and uplifting, that is if one is able to look inward to define themselves, rather than to society. The colors used in the artwork stem from a joyful emotion or they have a symbolic connection.  Kevin believes this joyful emotion comes from knowing that he has the freedom to choose his own destiny. Kevin’s signature pieces of artwork are done using mixed media.  Using a plethora of mediums allows him to create complex effects, he feels would otherwise be stifled by settling with one medium.  The layering and blending of the differing mediums creates an uncertainty of what was actually used in the process.

All and all, Kevin is not concerned if a viewer reads into the deeper meaning of his artwork, but most importantly hopes the viewer takes something positive with them when they leave, be it a particular image, subject or simply the aesthetic qualities of the medium they have experienced.

There is no project to large or to technical that Kevin is not willing to do.
