Actors Theatre of Louisville: the South's premiere regional theater

What do the The Gin Game, Crimes of the Heart and Dinner with Friends have in common? Each won a Pulitzer Prize. And all three plays premiered at the award-winning Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Lucky audiences at the South's premiere regional theater continue to enjoy the same high caliber of performances.

How good are the plays at Actors Theatre? The Octette Bridge Club, Agnes of God, Omnium-Gatherum, Keely and Du, One Flea Spare and other plays that premiered at Actors Theatre have gone on to Broadway. Crimes of the Heart, Agnes of God, The Gin Game, Dinner with Friends and several others became films.

Whether it's the plush 637-seat Pamela Brown Auditorium, the 318-seat theater-in-the-round Bingham Theatre or the intimate 159-seat Victor Jory Theatre, you're sure to enjoy the offerings. You can take a virtual tour of any of the three theaters.

Every February and March, all three venues host the plays that premiere as part of the Humana Festival of New American Plays, which debuted in 1976. Since then, 350 plays have made their debut at Actors Theatre. You can be the first to see the next Pulitzer Prize winner -- without ever having to fly to New York City!

Downstairs, the theater's restaurant is sure to please whether you're up for a quick bite before the curtain rises or a leisurely dinner or drinks afterward. Don't be surprised if you notice the actors from that evening's performance come in for a bite or a drink with which to unwind!

And make sure to leave time to enjoy the art of local and national artists on display at the theater's Sara Shallenberger Brown and mezzanine lobbies before the show.

You can check out the 2009-2010 season at the theater's website. You can buy tickets at the box office, by calling (502) 584-1205 or on the website's Box Office page. Be sure to check the details on season ticket packages on the website.

Founded in 1964, the non-profit theater was named the State Theater of Kentucky in 1974. Among its many awards, Actors Theatre of Louisville received the 1980 Tony Award for distinguished achievement.
