Falls of the Ohio: Family Fun Fair on Aug. 7
Jul 20, 2010
Family Fun Fair at the Falls of the Ohio State Park on Aug. 7 will provide a sampling of each of its annual events. With scorching summer temperatures, most of the activities will be inside the park’s Interpretive Center, located on the Indiana bank of the Ohio River just minutes from downtown Louisville. Keep cool while engaging in some really cool activities!
Family Fun Fair combines elements of the Fossil Festival, the Lewis & Clark Festival, Archeology Day, Raptor Day, Kids Corner and more!
Kids, you’ll get a 425-million-year-old fossil to take home! The fossils are being donated by Hanson’s Quarry. There will also be fossil rubbings all day long.
Once again, Delbert the Wizard will perform magic tricks at the Family Fun Fair. His performances are at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
You’ll also get a chance to meet Seaman the Dog, Meriwether Lewis' canine companion. Lewis and George Rogers Clark's younger brother, William Clark, explored the American continent all the way to the Pacific, with Seaman, a black Newfoundland, by their sides. Seaman, that precocious pooch, will even be giving out his autograph! Seaman is just a taste of the fun of the annual Lewis & Clark Festival.
You’ll also get a chance to meet early 19th century re-enactors at the George Rogers Clark Homeplace and to make a “Three Sisters bracelet” out of corn, beans and squash. There will be many more art projects and crafts all day long — including the chance to recycle natural objects into a “Nature Critter” as part of the Driftwood Art demonstration.
The film 400 Million Years at the Falls will play throughout the day.
HelloLouisville Tip: For a taste of Raptor Day, you'll get to watch wild birds through a telescope and pull apart owl pellets. All these activities and more will be included with the regular admission price.
