Cinderella waltzes into Derby Dinner Playhouse July 6
Jul 7, 2010
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella comes to Derby Dinner Playhouse from July 6 to Aug. 16. You’ll love the timeless musical fairytale of a poor orphan who defies her wicked step-mother to capture the heart of Prince Charming.
Children and their parents remember the tale from various versions that have been broadcast on television. Why not let the family in for a treat and see the musical live? Enjoy the poignance, the humor and the magical wonder of this beloved classic as musical theater.
Cinderella began as a TV special, the only one crafted by the legendary Broadway musical duo, composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, specifically written for television. It was broadcast live in 1957, and was seen by 107 million people — fully 60 percent of America! The musical was adapted for the London stage the following year.
The musical contains such favorite tunes as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible; It’s Possible,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” The show was remade twice more for television: in 1965 for Lesley Ann Warren and in 1997 for pop star Brandy. In each, the ugly step-sisters provide laughs as they lament their inferiority to the lovely Cinderella.
Tickets cost $33 to $42, depending on day and time. Tickets are available online or by calling (812) 288–8281.
