Bonnie Raitt joins Taj Mahal in Louisville Aug. 19
In their first-ever joint tour, Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal unroll their 30-date coast-to-coast "BonTaj Roulet" tour — including a stop at the picturesque Louisville Palace on Aug. 19. The two blues legends will not only provide an evening of good music, they'll also provide funding for good causes.
One dollar from each ticket sold will go to the BonTaj Collective Action Fund, which dispenses money to organizations and causes selected through votes from fans. (You can vote here.) If all goes well, Raitt — who says she trademarked "BonTaj Roulet" — predicts the joint tour will be the first of many.
Raitt and Taj Mahal will entertain Palace audiences with modern blues, country duets, and even some R&B numbers. The pair, who first met in 1970, will perform separately and together before closing out the evening with a collaborative, over-the-top performance. They'll be joined by Raitt's band and the Grammy Award-winning Phantom Blues Band.
Raitt, a nine-time Grammy winner and the daughter of Broadway musical star John Raitt, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. She became famous for her bottleneck-style guitar playing. Raitt achieved commercial success with the album Sweet Forgiveness in 1977.
Taj Mahal, a self-taught singer-songwriter, has two Grammy Awards under his belt. In his five-decade career, Taj Mahal has experimented with blues, pop, R&B and rock and roll. His latest album is 2008's Maestro, which was nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album at this year's Grammy Awards.
The Louisville Palace's website offers ticket buyers a chance to see the view from their seat before they buy. You can buy tickets online, by calling (877) 598-8698 or by visiting the Louisville Box Office from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and two hours before any scheduled event.
