Macca's Florida Seafood Grill & Bar: a tropical delight close to home
Louisville seafood lovers don't have to travel through four states to enjoy a Florida-style feast of scallops, clams, crab, plantains and even alligator tail. They can find it all at Westport Village at Macca's Florida Seafood Grill & Bar.
From the mounted alligator on the wall to the Gulf Oysters appetizers, Bottom of the Sea Calamari and Cuban-influenced black beans and rice, Macca's brings diners just about everything Florida has to offer except for the sun and waves — and maybe an Orlando theme park or two.
For an appetizer, you can't go wrong with the coconut shrimp, $6.99. Main-course possibilities range from the surf & turf classics — ike the Land and Leg Feast, $27.99, and 12-ounce Caribbean Sirloin, $14.49 — to nearly every variety of South Florida seafood delight. You'll get a surprisingly generous serving of fried coconut shrimp, clam strips, hand-battered whitefish with French fries and coleslaw with the $12.99 South Beach Bucket. Served with food spilling out of an actualy gleaming metal pail, it lives up to its name in every way.
The Island Crab Cakes, $11.49, come with pan-seared crabcakes, Caribbean rice, black bean sauce and a fruit salsa. The Untamed Plantain, $14.99, allows you to substitute chicken, mahi-mahi, scallops or tuna steak for the crabcakes.
If man-bites-alligator sounds like good dinnertime news, try the Everglades Bucket, with clam strips, island crabcakes and "Gator Tail," popcorn shrimp-style nuggets of battered and fried alligator, along with fries and coleslaw on the side. It's 14.99.
Macca's also has a kids' menu for the small fry in which every entree includes a drink and costs just $4.99. Each of the eight items includes a side of French fries or strawberry applesauce.
And what would a trip to Florida be without a tropical drink? Macca's bar serves up specialties ranging from spiced rum to the Gator Mango Mojito and the Tropical Martini — vodka, coconut rum and pineapple.
