Kentucky Repertory Theatre, formerly Horse Cave Theatre, was called “one of 10 great places to see the lights way off Broadway” by USA Today. The acclaimed professional theater company has been serving the region in tiny Horse Cave, KY, since 1977. While once the theater performed only during the summer, the award-winning Kentucky Rep now has performances from July through December. It's just 80 minutes from Louisville, 40 minutes from Elizabethtown, 60 minutes from Bardstown or Radcliff and 90 minutes from Nashville, TN.
The 346-seat theater has produced everything from Noël Coward’s hilariously subversive Private Lives to Shakespeare and theater standards such as Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park and Cole Porter’s Anything Goes. Kentucky Repertory Theatre also has had several world premieres, including 1985’s East of Nineveh by Jim Peyton and Hopscotch by Sallie Bingham, whose A Dangerous Personality opened off-Broadway in 2008. Kentucky Rep even commissions some of its own plays: 2010’s Mark Twain was developed by artistic director Robert F. Brock from Twain’s own papers. Whether you delight in thoughtful dramas, quirky comedies or the tried-and-true Broadway musical hits from the past, Kentucky Repertory Theatre has something for you.
