Building on last year’s success, Fourth Street Live! will host its second Louisville Mardi Gras festival Friday, March 5, 2011. Calling it the biggest Mardi Gras party in the city, Fourth Street Live! will bring the Bourbon Street atmosphere to you, says Danielle Babcock, marketing director with the entertainment venue.
DJ JC will spin on the Live! stage at 9 p.m. as the 21-and-up party gets started. DJ JC, aka Jamie Cress, describes his show as a blending of two turntables of sound and a video show. “The festival goers will be part of an interactive show that is not seen in many places around the country,” Cress says.
Three cash-prize contests will be held during the festival. Along with the return of the King Cake-eating contest, a costume contest and a ladies' bead-collecting contest will be held. Fourth Street Live! will offer a $500 prize for each contest, with beads being handed out by the Fourth Street Live! tenants.
WDJX (FM 90.7) is signing up contestants who call the station, beginning Monday, February 28, and on the Live! stage the night of the festival. Ben Davis, WDJX event coordinator, says he expects another large turnout.
During the festival, Tengo sed Cantina, Angels Rockbar, Hotel Nightclub and the Sports and Social Club will be offering the “Free4All”. This is an open bar from 9-11 p.m. at all four locations for a single ticket price of $20. Advance tickets are available at www.missiontix.com.
Starting at 8 p.m., Howl at the Moon will have its dueling piano and sing-along show. Saddle Ridge, Sully’s Saloon and TGI Friday’s will also be offering food and drink specials earlier in the evening as a preparation to the festival activities.
Fourth Street Live! is between Liberty Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard in downtown Louisville. Free parking is available at the Fourth Street Live!/PARC garage, which opens at 6 p.m.
