Jefferson Community and Technical College is hosting a traveling exhibit of portraits by Maine artist Robert Shetterly, who began the works out of anger and grief over the U.S. response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The result was 100 portraits called "Americans Who Tell the Truth." At the invitation of JCTC's Office of Cultural Diversity, Shetterly will appear with 30 of his portraits Feb. 3-5. People who attend the free programs will have the opportunity to view the portraits, read the quotes and biography, and hear from the artist.

Subjects include Sojourner Truth, abolitionist and woman's rights activist; Winona LaDuke, Native American activist; Shirley Chisholm, first black woman elected to Congress; Edward Said, Palestinian rights activist; James Bell, youth justice activist; James Baldwin, author of Go Tell it on the Mountain and If Beale Street Could Talk; Larry Gibson, mountaintop mining opponent; and Wendell Barry, Kentucky novelist and poet.
