Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont, KY, offers you a chance to assuage your spring fever with BloomFest on Saturday, May 15.
The festival, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include a plant sale, gardening experts, live music, kite flying and a brunch.
More than 2,000 people attended the first BloomFest last year, said Susan Ritter, the forest’s marketing and communications officer. The plant sale, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Visitor Center, includes perennials, shrubs and trees. Kentucky artists will sell their works, including pottery, jewelry and more.
For children and the young at heart, there is a woodland fairies costume contest and the “construction zone.”
“(The zone) will be a fabulous thing,” Ritter said. “We are bringing back the Woodland Faerie Village, where kids create dwellings out of natural materials for tiny woodland beings.”
If your stomach is rumbling, brunch catered by Jarfi’s Bistro is available at 10 a.m. and noon. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger. Reservations (with payment) can be made in advance by calling (502) 955-8512.
While at BloomFest, enjoy the more than 30 miles of hiking trails and woodland roads throughout the forest. Most roads are open to bicyclists, too. A children’s play area is also available for family fun.
Bernheim Forest is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. However, the Visitor Center, Art Gallery and Nature Shop are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free Monday through Friday. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, admission is $5 per car, $10 per passenger van or RV and $20 per bus.
To get there from Louisville, take Interstate 65 south to Exit 112. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Highway 245. The forest entrance is about a mile on the right.
