Louisville Beatles fans get to enjoy Abbey Road on the River every year, but this year locals have a special treat -- a preview concert featuring three top Abbey Road bands.
The preview concert, benefiting DuPont Manual High School's Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS), will showcase the music of the Grammy-winning soundtrack album LOVE. Tribute band All You Need Is Love will travel down from Canada and will take the stage with Cincinnati's The Newbees and Chicago's BritBeat.
All You Need Is Love is the only band to have played in every Abbey Road show, including the original Cleveland show in 2002. BritBeat, "one of the best tribute bands in the world" according to the event website, includes retro costumes and vintage instruments as part of a great musical performance. The Newbees are known for having a string section at every show, along with five lead singers -- including female vocalists.
YPAS will host the concert at its Main Stage Theater on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $12 for the main floor and $10 for the balcony. For more information, visit the YPAS website or call (502) 485-8355.
Abbey Road on the River is the country's largest and longest-running Beatles tribute festival and celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2011. This year the festival will run May 26-30 on the Belvedere. A second sister festival is held in Washington, D.C. over Labor Day weekend. In 2010, over 40,000 people attended the two festivals.
