In “Darkness Doubled,” contemporary artist Andréa Stanislav's new show at Art Ecology Gallery, Andréa Stanislav continues her exploration of the theme of utopia as inextricably linked to dystopia albeit in a bit darker, complex and more pictorial fashion. The exhibition opens with a public reception on April 16 and runs through June 5.
“There’s an irony in man’s attempts to achieve the ideal being mapped out through trails of carnage and destruction,” explained Stanislav. “My work is a synthesis of images and events, mined from pop culture and visual art movements from the second half of the 20th century that explores the failure of utopian impulses. The images I am working with have become more resonate, intriguing and relevant over time to me.”
Stanislav's work includes sculpture, constructions, sound, multichannel video and installation. The Chicago native currently splits her time between New York City and Minneapolis.
