The inaugural Julep Ball on Derby Eve, April 30, will provide Louisvillians the chance to celebrate the impending Kentucky Derby while raising funds for cancer research.
Previously called the Mint Jubilee, the renamed black-tie event offers a celebrity red carpet entrance, cocktail reception, gourmet dinner and hours of dancing. More than 1,300 people attended last year's sold-out event. The proceeds benefit the University of Louisville's James Graham Brown Cancer Center. Past celebrity guests include actress Valerie Bertinelli, who's ex-husband Eddie Van Halen has twice been treated for tongue and mouth cancer; boxing legend Evander Holyfield; actor Mekhi Phifer; best-selling author Nora Roberts; and jockey Jean Cruguet, who rode Seattle Slew to win the 1977 Triple Crown.
The 2010 honorary chairman of the Julep Ball is Phil Helmuth, 11-time World Series of Poker champion.
Tickets are $500, $400 of which is tax deduction eligible. You can make reservations by calling (502) 562–3153.
The Julep Ball also has live and silent auctions. Past auction items game tickets in the L.A. Lakers Owner’s Suite, a poker game with Phil Hellmuth, and tickets to the Emmy Awards, Masters golf tournament and World Series.
