The Kosair Shrine Circus is coming! Make way for elephants, clowns and the tightrope walkers. Tickets are on sale now for the Kosair Shrine Circus, which will be performed for 10 shows at Broadbent Arena at the Kentucky Exposition Center in the state fairgrounds February 10-13, 2011.
The Kosair Shrine Circus is performed by the George Carden Circus International, led by a fifth-generation circus performer. This year, the ringmaster is Audrey Michelle, a Texas native who began performing in the circus at age 6 with her parents. She now travels the nation with her acrobat husband and three children.
Perhaps the most popular act of the circus, at least for the kids, is the elephant tricks. There’s something magical about watching these huge animals perform pyramids and other astounding feats that will have kids jumping out of their seats in disbelief. Another favorite act is the tigers. Interestingly, this troupe has been trained by a Polish trainer and therefore only understand Polish.
And even the humans can perform tricks. The “Flying Farfans” are also a crowd-pleaser, performing daredevil flips and maneuvers high above the crowd. The human contortionist, who is just 17 years old, can support her entire body by gripping a metal bar with her teeth. There will also be clowns, an artistic BMX bike troupe, and plenty of tricks, gags and jokes, compliments of the clowns.
The circus is brought to Louisville by the Kosair Shrine, best known for its colorful parades, distinctive red fezes and its official philanthropy, the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
