Abraham Lincoln's own words, portraits, artifacts and hands-on activities make up Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln, an exhibition at the J.B. Speed Art Museum. The exhibit, organized by the Kentucky Historical Society, runs through Sept. 6.
The exhibition comes just in time for the Lincoln Bicentennial. Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln relates the untold story of Lincoln's lifelong engagement with his native state and how Kentucky and Kentuckians shaped the future president's life and paved the way for his political career. The exhibit also looks at how President Lincoln managed to keep Kentucky — a slave state deeply divided between slaveholders and abolitionists — in the Union fold during the Civil War.
Athough admission to the permanent collections and this exhibit is free, the Speed suggests a $4 donation.
