The Moody Blues — the British band best known for the psychedelic album, Days of Future Past, which contains the single "Nights in White Satin" and stayed on the Billboard charts for two years — will bring their re-formed, eclectic band to Horseshoe Casino Hotel Southern Indiana on June 19. The casino is just 25 minutes from downtown Louisville.
One of the Moody Blues’ original members, drummer Graeme Edge, and two other members who date to 1966, John Lodge and Justin Hayward, perform in the reconstituted band. The Moody Blues added keyboardist Alan Hewitt for this year’s tour. The band will be performing in the Outdoor Stage as part of Horsehoe’s Summer Concert Series. The show will go on, rain or shine.
The band’s seven main albums were re-released on CD in 2006 and 2007. The Moody Blues has become such a mainstay of pop culture that they even made a cameo on the hit television series The Simpsons in 2004, singing a parody version of "Nights in White Satin."
The Moody Blues have sold more than 70 million albums in their four decades. The band pioneered the concept album in the 1960s, including Days of Future Past; in the 1980s, they released bouncy rock tunes like “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)” and the monster hit “Your Wildest Dreams;" in the 1990s, the Moody Blues began performing lush orchestral mixes of rock and pop with symphony orchestras; and in the new millennium, the band recorded new songs for a blockbuster IMAX film, Journey Into Amazing Caves and translated some of their classics from the 1970s and 1980s into bluegrass interpretations and collaborated with Nashville musicians for the album and DVD, The Moody Blues: Lovely to See You, Live.
Whether rhythm and blues, psychedelic rock, ballads, orchestral music or bluegrass, the Moody Blues provides its audiences with an eclectic take on popular music.
