American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure 2011 Takes Off from Norton Commons

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) will host Louisville’s fifth annual Tour de Cure at Prospect’s Norton Commons on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Novice riders, occasional bikers and expert cyclists will join together to raise money to support the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes. Associated events will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Tour de Cure was launched by the American Diabetes Association in 1991 to raise funds to improve the lives of people affected by diabetes. One out of every three Americans born today will develop the disease. The Tour de Cure has grown to include 80 cycling events in 43 states and raised $18 million nationally in 2010.

Four routes are planned for the Louisville Tour de Cure. A family-friendly five mile ride begins at 10 a.m. Experienced riders can choose from 20, 40 and 60 mile routes through Oldham, Jefferson and Shelby counties beginning at 8 a.m. Full service rest stops with mechanical and medical support will be provided along all routes. Riders are required to wear helmets.

For more information or to sign-up visit the Tour de Cure website. Registration is $25; all riders must also meet a $150 minimum fundraising goal.
