The crush of events during Derby season keeps Louisvillians dressed up and going out for weeks — but there's a new event worth getting glammed up for one more night: the Oaks and Smokes Derby Eve Gala. The Oaks and Smokes Derby Eve Gala will take place in 2011 for the second year, and all proceeds benefit Kentucky Harvest.
Last year's inaugural event was a success, and this year, the event will move to a new venue. The Ice House, on Washington Street in the NuLu district, will provide a sleek space for this swanky event. Food will be provided by Crushed Ice Catering, a new offering in Louisville but already bringing Chef Laurence Agnew's exciting food to a number of high-end clients.
Oaks and Smokes will also feature "pre-Prohibition" cocktails and cigars from Kremer's Smoke Shoppe. Entertainment will be provided by The Louisville Crashers.
Receiving the proceeds of this event is the Kentucky Harvest, which helps feed those in need. Mainly a volunteer network, the Kentucky Harvest says it "moves food from people who give it to people who need it." The organization also provides the Blessings in a Backpack program to school children to ensure they are nourished outside of school.
This Derby Eve event will take place May 6, 2011, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are $75 and include food, entertainment, one premium cigar and a door-prize ticket. A cash bar will be available.
