Beer isn’t usually known for being that high “brau,” but it will be for one night, Saturday, January 15, 2011, when malt and barley meet ballet at the Pas de Brew event featuring the Louisville Ballet, Goose Island Beer and Bluegrass Brewing Company. To explain the name, in ballet, when two dancers perform together as a duet it is called a pas de deux, which is often mispronounced as "doo." Perhaps the “pass da brew” reference was just too good to pass up.
Rather than pairing dancers, Pas de Brew will pair craft beers with the upscale dining choices provided by Corbett’s. Held at the Muhammad Ali Center, Pas de Brew will feature beer choices by Jared Rouben, a Louisville native and the head brewer of Chicago’s Goose Island Brew Pub.
Corbett’s bills itself as “an American place,” and what’s more American than beer? The restaurant is one of Louisville’s more upscale seen-and-be-seen restaurants. While the menu has not been announced yet, Corbett’s is known for its use of mostly locally grown ingredients that are on the slightly unusual, or at least unexpected side, such as quail eggs (fried, of course), beets, pomegranates and parsnips.
One thing beer connoisseurs will particularly appreciate – there will be a live auction that includes the chance to name the next special beer created by Rouben. The winner will not only enjoy naming rights, but will also get a personal stock with their own private label.
Tickets for the full night, which includes a seated dinner, beer pairings and dancing are $200, with festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m.. For dessert, beer pairings and dancing only, which begins at 9 p.m., tickets are available for $60. “High-style cocktail attire” is requested.
Come out and support the Louisville Ballet while enjoying a little bottled elegance.
