
As part of a month-long celebration, the Kentuckiana Pride Festival — scheduled for June 19 and 20 — will feature the Indigo Girls and Tiffany as part of the entertainment.
The festival features a parade, entertainment for children, plenty of music and other entertainment, a pet contest, food, treats and sweets, T-shirts, souvenirs and more. A centerpiece of the Friday night parade will be a giant rainbow flag, symbol of diversity. The annual festival celebrates diversity and the contributions of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
The Friday kick-off is free; admission on Saturday costs just $5 — which includes the concerts with the Indigo Girls, Tiffany and many more acts. The $5 entrance fee is paid at the gate to the Belvedere. All performances are on the Belvedere.
The Annual Pride Parade begins at 8 p.m. Friday from the parking lot of Tryangles, 209 S. Preston St., and will proceed 45 minutes away to the Belvedere, where the live entertainment, festivities. A Pride Pet contest precedes the parade. Prizes of $100 each will go to the best float and the best-dressed pet.
The festival's children's activities run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Bring the little ones for some family friendly fun.
The Indigo Girls will perform from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. The American indie-folk duo are best known for their album Swamp Ophelia and their participation in the Lillith Fair music festival tour. The duo, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, won a Grammy Award in 1990. The Indigo Girls have just released a new album, Poseidon and the Bitter Bug.
Tiffany, the 1980s teen pop queen turned adult dance-song singer and actress, will also perform Saturday night, from 9:10 to 9:40 p.m. She will star in the upcoming horror-thriller Necrosis. In 1986, Tiffany's cover of "I Think We're Alone Now," first recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1967, became a monster No. 1 hit on the Billboard chart and made her a star.
All of the entertainers who'll be performing at the Kentuckiana Pride Festival will attend the Entertainers Meet & Greet on Friday night at 11:30 p.m. at Starbase Q, 921 W. Main St. You must be at least 21 years old to enter the gay-friendly nightclub/bar. Just $5 lets you in to the VIP area. For more on the entertainers, click here.
While coolers are allowed, bags and coolers will be searched. Absolutely no alcohol, glass containers or drugs will be allowed. Pets are allowed on Friday, but not Saturday.
