Rock of Ages, a rock musical set in the Hollywood of the 1980s, comes to the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts’ Whitney Hall from January 25–30. Rock of Ages at the Kentucky Center is a totally rad celebration of big chords, big dreams and big hair!
Part rock revue and part romance, Rock of Ages begins — where else? — on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip in 1987 with the arrival of young Sherri, literally just off the bus from a small town in Kansas. She meets an up-and-coming big-city rocker, Drew, and the pair fall in love in Los Angeles’ most famous rock club to the tune of the greatest songs of the ’80s. This arena-rock love story is told through the hits of Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and other 1980s rockers.
But when the rock club that led to Sherri’s and Drew’s romance is slated be bulldozed for a strip mall, can the lovers and their friends save the day? One thing is certain: This high-energy musical, which has been playing on Broadway since 2009, will play loud and party on!
Rock of Ages is part of the PNC Broadway Across America Louisville series of shows at the Kentucky Center.
While teens will find Rock of Ages as totally awesome as their parents, some of the costumes, dancing and language may not be appropriate for kids under 14.
