Looking for some serious Christmas shopping? The shop-till-you-drop crowd will love the Louisville Christmas Gift & Décor Show, which takes place at the fair grounds Dec. 10-12. It’s big, it’s loud, and it can be a little tacky at times. But it’s also the only event where holiday shoppers can cross off every name on their list in one day. And it’s free!
A holiday favorite since 1988, the show is one of the largest and best holiday shopping events around. Head down to the South Wing of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center and check out more than 700 individual vendors of mostly handmade gifts, crafts and décor items.
Strolling down the first aisle can be a little overwhelming. Every Christmas item you can imagine is displayed, and most of them are handmade -- personalized clay tree ornaments, wooden yard signs, quilted stockings, colorful platters for Santa’s cookies, hand-blown glass snowmen, holiday welcome mats, green and red quilts, and a bevy of holiday sweaters, vests, dresses, purses and jewelry. There is usually a selection of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa items as well.
For the kiddos on your shopping list, there are wooden trains, baby clothes, hand-knit sweaters, hand-tied hair bows, and toys in all shapes and sizes. Men will love the variety of cornhole sets and amusing décor themed around hunting, fishing, boating and other sports. For the ladies, there are fabric purses, clothing, jewelry, sweaters, makeup bags and items for the home that will suit just about any taste.
Food vendors from around the state drive in to feed the crowd – roasted chestnuts, candied pecans, homemade fudge, and a tasty array of hamburgers, hotdogs and sandwiches.
HelloLouisville Tip: Come early, because the first 500 kids to arrive on the first day will receive a free picture with Santa Claus.
