A black-and-white photo young women giggling and gossiping on a park bench, an Ektachrome photo of a down-at-heel hotel and hundreds more slices of American life constitute the J.B. Speed Art Museum's City/Country exhibition, on display June 7-Sept. 13.
The exhibition showcases hundreds of American photographs collected by Henry V. Heuser Jr., a Louisville businessman, philanthroplist and art lover. Since the 1970s, Heuser has been collecting photographs by some of the United States' foremost photographers — Harry Callahan, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Ray Metzker, Aaron Siskind and Garry Winogrand among them. Now more than 100 of Heuser's photographs are on display for all to see.
While some of the Speed Art Museum's exhibitions charge admission, the City/Country exhibition is free; Viewing the Speed's permanent collections is always free. For free exhibits, the Speed suggests a $4 donation.
