Like daffodils, spring festivals in Louisville crop up all at once. As the weather warms, luring people outdoors, spring festivals in Louisville become popular destinations for tourists as well as locals.
Fourth Annual Mighty Kindness Hootenanny
On Saturday, April 23, the Fourth Annual Mighty Kindness Hootenanny will take place at the Louisville Nature Center across from the Louisville Zoo. The eco-festival's musical performers will include Reel World String Band, Mark "Big Poppa" Stampley, and White Russians. The event showcases local farms, green businesses, local art and homemade goods. Free yoga, square foot gardening workshops, a film festival, children’s activities, and a massage-a-thon will take place throughout the day.
The Indiana Fiber and Music Festival
The Indiana Fiber and Music Festival will debut Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1, at the Clark County 4H Fairgrounds, located about 20 minutes from Louisville in Charlestown, Indiana. The festival will offer workshops, demonstrations and vendors displaying and selling handmade fiber art, along with musical entertainment and children’s activities. Some of the workshops offered will cover knitting, spinning, felting, weaving and braiding. Formal demonstrations will include sock knitting and sheep-to-shawl, where spinners spin fleece into yarn that another artist weaves into a shawl.

Bardstown Bluegrass Festival
Plenty of picking will be going on June 3 and 4 at White Acres Campgrounds for the 2011 Bardstown Bluegrass Festival. Kati Penn and Newton, Cumberland River, and Bluegrass 101 are among the nine bands scheduled to perform during the festival, now in its 17th year. The festival takes place rain or shine under a large pavilion on the campground, home to A.R. and Doris White, who started the event in October 1994. The first festival was held in an old barn on the campground but was moved to the pavilion in 1996. The site is located about three miles west of Bardstown on Highway 62.
