While the Louisville Ballet has been performing Peter Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker for decades, the company promises that this year's The Brown-Forman Nutcracker will be a world-premiere production.
This brand-new Nutcracker, which runs from Dec. 5 through Dec. 20, will feature all-new choreography, costumes, scenery and more. Audiences will delight in the new changes to this family favorite and the choreography by Val Caniparoli.
In this fairy-tale ballet, perhaps the most popular of all time, a young girl named Clara receives a toy nutcracker as a present at a Christmas party. This nutcracker, who is dressed as a soldier, later comes to life and takes Clara to an enchanted Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy, in which candy, dolls and other toys magically come to life. Will the evil Mouse King and his rodentine henchmen ruin everything for Clara and her nutcracker? Be sure to catch this holiday classic and find out!
Season subscribers to the Louisville Ballet will have first chance to see this all-new Nutcracker as part of their package. They can even add additional Nutcracker tickets at a discount.
The Louisville Orchestra will be providing the music, ensuring that The Nutcracker will be a magical event for audiences. Evening performances, which are at Whitney Hall at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, are at 7:30 p.m., while the Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets for public performances cost range from $25 and $95 for the performances, whether evenings on Thursday through Friday or Saturday and Sunday matinees. You can order tickets online or by calling (502) 584–7777 or tollfree at (800) 775–7777, or in person at the Kentucky Center for the Arts' box office, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
As part of its education mission, the Louisville Ballet will be staging four matinee performances of The Brown-Forman Nutcracker for school field trips. The matinees are Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18; all are at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10 for this 60-minute version of The Nutcracker. For every 10 students, a chaperone can attend for free; additional adult tickets cost $20. Teachers wishing to reserve seats a matinee performance should call Group Sales at (502) 583–3150, ext. 242, or email jkelch@louisvilleballet.org.
