Last Friday on August 6th, the Hello Metro Inc. party generated nostalgia when Grammy-award winning Australian pop sensation, actor, and author (new biography out in the fall, titled: Late, Late at Night), Rick Springfield visited the Prospect neighborhood of Louisville, KY. Springfield’s been extensively touring the country playing stadium-sized shows, but unbeknownst to the city’s masses, he played for a small gathering at CEO Clark and Kelly Scott’s castle-like home.
Mr. Springfield appeared in a flannel shirt and doned a thin goatee. At first fans were intimidated by his presence, but as soon as he spoke, flashed his beautiful smile and sparkled his eyes, the audience let loose and gravitated toward the star. Female fans were all too eager to worship within five feet of him. Situated poolside, Springfield played a stripped down, acoustic show with an eclectic mix of songs from eighteen albums Rick has written over the years. Favorites, that got his female fans reeling were, “I Get Excited,” “I’ve Done Everything For You,” “Love Somebody” and of course, “Jessie’s Girl”. Rick graciously performed requested songs of Kelly’s personal favorites: “Souls,” “Inside Sylvia,” and from his most current album (Venus in Overdrive), “I’ll Miss That Someday.”
Springfield used his quick wit, humor and strikingly boyish handsome face to work the intimate crowd. At first he only sang into Kelly’s star-struck eyes; then allowed the rest of the females to join in the revelry and tail wagging. The ambience of the concert could not have been more perfect with the serene setting of the trees, pool and limestone arch that hovered over Rick. Prior to one of the last songs, “Love Is Alright Tonite,” one of the strings retracted from his guitar which was a true spectacular moment.
Rick Springfield culminated his delightfully entertaining hour-long set with an up close and personal meet and greet in the living room. He graciously took pictures with his adoring fans, signed vinyl albums and relaxed into the romance of the evening before retreating from the crowd. Rick was very humble, personable, and engaged in conversation with all the guests. It was a surreal night that will never be forgotten!
