For an unforgettable evening of fine dining, the English Grill has a lot to offer. The AAA Four-Diamond English Grill provides excellent food amidst oak-paneled splendor.
Located in the historic Brown Hotel, a Louisville landmark since 1923, the English Grill serves fine American cuisine with Kentucky flair. (The English Grill's more casual restaurant, J. Graham's, is downstairs.) The dinner-only menu offers such finely executed dishes as the filet mignon ($36), Spiced Bourbon Pork Medallion ($24) or the legendary Hot Brown ($18), sliced turkey on toast points laced with bacon, a cheese mornay sauce, Parmesan cheese and tomato and then broiled. The Brown Hotel's signature sandwich was invented right in the hotel's kitchen in 1926.
As with all the finest restaurants, the English Grill's menu changes seasonally.
No meal at the English Grill is complete without savoring the restaurant's signature dessert, the Chocolate Striptease. Delicious milk chocolate mousse on moist dark chocolate cake is wrapped in dark chocolate ganache. Dressed with chocolate sauce, chocolate shavings and an assortment of berries, the dessert is served flambé with Bacardi 151 rum. Not ready for chocolate overload? Then enjoy a slice of Kern's Derby Pie, a walnut-and-chocolate-chip pie that's a legendary Louisville speciality.
Neither smoking nor cell phones are allowed in the English Grill. Proper attire is required. A 20 percent service charge is added to parties of six or more. Reservations are highly recommended. Online reservations are not available; for reservations, call (502) 324-1389.
