St. Mary Academy Reviews

Brand new school campus opened for the 2009-2010 school year with 507 students. Best principal in the region. Just a wonderful new campus, teachers and staff. One of the top catholic schools in Louisville.

my daughter just finished preschool and loved every minute of it! the preschool teachers are outstanding! we're sad to see the school moving so far away from us. her experience there was a great start to her education. a very loving and caring environment all around!

Was once a fantastic school with a welcoming and warm environment. However, since the merger and the new staff the school is in serious decline. there is no open friendliness not to mention poor teaching in key areas and a few overcrowded classes.

Mother of Good Counsel is an outstanding school! I have three kids who attend - pre-school, 1st grade, and 3rd grade - and we have had nothing but outstanding experiences. The teachers are top notch; they are some of the most caring, most experienced teachers I have ever seen, and my kids are learning so much. Athletics are very strong at MGC, and everyone is encouraged to get involved. There is something for every age group. Parent involvement is second to none. The parish is a very welcoming parish, and I would not want to be anywhere else. Like the motto says, 'MGC - A great place to be!'

MGC is a great place to be. My three children are thriving there. Small class sizes allow for more one-on-one opportunities with teachers. MGC is a loving, caring, spiritual environment where the teachers and Principal know all of the kids. Academics are sound, as demonstrated by the academic team's recent showing in the Governor's Cup competition. Most of the teachers are 'teaching to their strengths,' i.e. they are teaching the subjects they have expertise in. The staff Reading Specialist has greatly helped our son who has had some reading isuues in the past. Parent involvement is fantastic. Being a small school means that the parents need to be more involved, and at MGC they are.

Unfortunately, there has been a steady decline of enrollment at Mother of Good Counsel since 1994, and with the recent merging of smaller schools within the Archdiocese of Louisville, our family decided to transfer to another parochial school in the area. Presently the enrollment at Mother of Good Counsel is only 270 students. Our family found that the class sizes are indeed quite small, parent involvement is fair and academics are average. We left Mother of Good Counsel because we feared with the continual delcine in enrollment that it too would close before our child graduated. We hope Mother of Good Counsel will one day be able to rebound from this decline and eventually grow in size. We just didn't want to risk the school closing while we were still enrolled.

We moved from another state and were warmly accepted by the school. The pricipal knows the kids by name, and the teachers are top notch. The children love their school so much that they can't wait to get back for their extracurricular activities. I too, wouldn't send our kids anyplace else.

This is the best school on earth. My children are very happy there. The staff is outstanding. It is a family oriented school. With small classes and one-on-one. I wouldn't send my children any where else.
