Westport Traditional Mid & Fine Arts Aca Reviews

Like any other school you're going to have fights. But this year we really hadn't had any fights. I'm an 8th grader, at first i didn't really care about this school. I heard the rumors, they weren't true. The sixth grade was horriblefor me. Later the teachers started to change how they'd dicipline us the students and how the students acted changed. By setting goals. This school is a good place especially when you meet unique people.

My child is in his second year at Westport. He loves going to school daily because he feels he has teachers and administrators who care about him. We are involved at school. I have never been in that building when I didn't find it orderly but not rigid, clean, and met with a positive atmosophere. I have witnessed this with any person who has come into the building. I have seen friction between a few teachers and the principal, but my take on it is that these teachers are not on board with wanting change and are fighting the positive things most staff want to take place. Overall, the staff works hard to improve on the weaknesses. As they continue to build on strengths (caring, proactive staff: students who want to learn), Westport will be able to change public perception for the better.

My son started this year he said it's o.K. So far. I was so worry because it was so many fights there two years ago. My only problem some of the kids talk to much during learning time, which need to be under control.

I am a seventh grader at Westport Middle School this year. This is truly a great school! All the negativity that has been spread about our school is unnecessary. We have many bright and outstanding students. Many people misjudge us; it s not the building that gives the school the reputation, it s the students in the building that give us a good or bad reputation. The teachers on my team; green gators are extremely caring, and very helpful. I fell that if you want your child to attend a safe and helpful environment Westport is the perfect school!

Just like many of the other reviews it is coming from an 8th grade student. Like many I have attended Westport for almost 3 years and I too will miss it. This school has made many opportunities available to the student body. This year I will be applying for the Youth Performing Arts School in the string section. It is all because my teachers really helped me understand the core of content that we were supposed to learn. So really if you heard anything about this school then ignore it because it isnt really true. The students are cool and the teachers are nice. And if you aren't sending your student here because of violence then I will just say that all school will have fights that occur in them.

I'm an eighth grader at Westport and I've gone here all three years. It's really changed since sixth grade (for the better) When I first started out I hated this school but now I'm sad to see it go. I've made a lot of friends here. I've heard just about every rumor about this school and watched them be disproven.

I am an eighth grader here at wesport middle school. I just started going here this year and it is not as bad as what you hear. I mean there are some really nice teachers, a nice principle and some really nice kids. All the rumors I have heard aren't true. The dicipline of the school is not bad at all. There is actually a police guard that walks around the school. I really like this school and I think anyone who comes here in the future won't be dissapointed. -Mindi Wafford

I go here right now as of '08 and id like to say that this school is actually pretty good. i know most teachers have had bad experiance with this school but our education is really sourcful. and the teachers are well understanding and everything so i really appreciate what all they have taught me

I go to westport middle school it is a great school. When you have a problem the teachers will listen to what you have to say! If you don't good to westport you can't say that it is a bad school because you don't know anything about westport!

I am an 8th grade student at Wesport on the Eagles team, and Wesport really isn't as bad as some people say, sure there are a few fights but none this year. Westport has a great staff and teachers like Ms. Weis and Mr. Carrol make the classroom a fun & exciting invornment for students. I reccomend you send your child to Westport but it's your decision. Marcus McBroom

Westport is a great school with it's huge amount of extracurricular activities, outstanding library and excellent staff members. It's clean, the people are nice, great learning opportunities, and much more! Sure it's not perfect, but what school is? It's a great school. -Caterina Wulf (an 8th grade student at Westport TMS 2008-2009)

Westport is a good school. It's starting to improve from the time I first begin. This is my last year so I hope it continues to improve throughout the years to come. Carl Coffey

Westport is the greatest school ever. I'm an 8th grade student on the EAGLES. We have the best staff, teachers and bus drivers. All the bad reviews people been saying ISN'T TRUE. Its all false so don't believe them one bit.

Im a Westport student and I have one thing to say. All you people who think Westport is a bad school is out of their mind. Westport isn't as bad as you think. We have a police officer here that keeps us in line he also coaches Westports very first volleyball team. There hasn't been any fights this year. If the parents who say Westport is a bad school they need to walk a day in the kids shoes and see how the school is now. We have a lot of discipline now that the teachers and staff are more attentive to what we are doing. So really parents Westport is a really good school. So I recommend you send your kids there but its up too you. - Jasmine Lockard

I'm an Eight Grader at Westport and it's a pretty good school. Sure it has some profanity there but I make a alot of friends and we go to some cool field trips like the Muhammad Ali Center and an Art Museum. Some of the students act inappropriate and unruly but the teachers are nice, like Ms. Wies and Ms. Smith.

Westport Middle School Is the worst School I Have ever Been to. This school is full of negativity, what I mean is the people can not behave,It's innaproprite, teasing, bullying it is impossible. If you thinking about going to that school think again it is no good school. I have been at Wesport for now two years I complain alot, people are so unkind there you have no idea.

I'm the parent of a Westport student. The school is so terrible that I'm seriously considering transferring her mid-year. Many of the other reviewers have it right. The teaching is lackluster, most of the class material is glossed over once, and if a student asks a question they are reprimanded for not having paid attention the first time around. I found the instructors to be horribly condescending to both students and teachers during Open House. They were not open to questions and do not seem to be open to discussion of their methods. I am furious at the way my daughter has been treated at this school. 'It's not my problem.' I don't know how many times my daughter has come home from school telling me that her teachers have said this. Send your kids somewhere else.

It is unfortunate to live in a nice neighborhood and not be proud of your home school. There is enormous lack of discipline. The teachers have a lackluster - 'I don't care' attitude. The kids are unruly and bullying runs rampant. Fighting and swearing are the norm - especially since there are no consequences or dicipline. I am now paying to send all three of my children to private schools. Best move I ever made. Please do whatever you can to keep your children out of this school until the problems are resolved.

The greatest shame is that a small number of excellent teachers cannot possibly overcome the shocking lack of leadership in this school. No principal sticks around long. The stories my child brings home range from disturbing to infuriating. Children who are trying to learn simply cannot because of the classroom disruptions. Complaining is useless, as nothing ever improves. Bullying is rampant, with no disciplinary follow-up. Test scores are falling, and NCLB goals not met. We were by law given the opportunity to transfer, but then in the same letter, it states that since no other school meets federal NCLB goals, we cannot actually transfer. Does that even make sense?

I am an Eighth grade student at Westport now, and I have to say, Westport isn't quite your dream school. The staff has such a hard time keeping students in order, that they don't generally have time to teach everything they need to. Most of the students are immature, and act like they own the school, and can do whatever they want. Parents, I'd advise you to send your child to another school, but hey, it's your choice.

I am a parent of a 6th grader at this school. We moved here from the west coast, Phoenix, and knew nothing about this area. This is our home school. This is by far the worst school in Jefferson County. The bullying is out of control. The staff is too busy with the disruptive, disobedient kids to really teach. There is so little parent involvement it is sad. I have tried to get my son out, however all our hardships have been denied and our transfers denied. I think there is a high poverty level at this school which plays into the picture big time. We are now moving to get him out!

Ok, I've seen a lot of reviews saying Westport is a bad school, It's not! I'm a sixth grader whose transferred from Knight Middle School and I think Westport is by far the better school between the two from my experience. I'm learning better, my grades have vastly improved, and the staff is better.

I'm a 7th grader at Westport and it really is a great school. It's really not as bad as people make it out to be. I love all my teachers. I often still go up to see my 6th grade teachers. They have a great program for the special needs class. I love going down with them and helping out. Westport also has a great staff. They are all very nice and actually care about the kids at the school.

I am a student in the seventh Grade at westport and i would like to show you how much this school cares for there students and Faculty, With all the security and help you will not feel like there are any problems, If something bad happens the staff will Immediatly take action! When you have a problem in academic areas you can ask for help and get help or tutored by the teachers. This school is a great experiance for all children! Thanks to the staff!

i am an 8th grade student at westport middle school and i have had the best experience i could have ever had at westport. So many wounderful things have happened since dr.calvert has been at westport. mr white is a great science teacher that has been at westport for a very long time and has made a great deal of a defference in the schools science scores. not only that but we are getting a great deal of new and better technonlogy. please disregaurd the other comments and send your kid to westport!! Whitney wasko

I have a son with adhd/pdd. This school is awful. Stealing and profanity run rampant. My son has had his entire backpack stolen. Recently his writing journal was stolen, and his teacher's response is 'not my problem'. This is so typical of this school.

Westport is the greatest school. With the success of the principal and her back bones. Mrs. Cardell, Mrs. Niles, Mr. Burba, Mr. Campbell, Mrs. Kuntz, Mr. Carter, Mr. Joe and her office staff. I could say many more namse but I don't have the room. I'm a former student but I still say that I apart of this school. In the past I was a trouble maker and got sent to Kennedy Metro. Now that I look back on all of the people that tried to help me. Leadership of this school is great. The teachers are wonderful. Parents involement is huge and important to Westport Traditional middle School. Mrs. Calvert is a wonderful person who loves all of her Westport children. Westport hasn't been great in the past but this woman made a u-turn. Westport is the best school that ever touch faced on the earth.

Everyone says that this school is bad and all these negative things about it. THEY ARN'T TRUE! I love getting up and going to westport. We now have a new Principle! DR. Jan Clavert. I love how she runs the school. She understands what has happened in the past and is fixing it all. We have had some incidents in the past but every school has had them. Also the office staff & teachers are the best. They are easy to get along with. If you need some help any staff member will be willing to help. Also the school is very sanitary thanks to our Janitors. Thanks and come to our openhouse! Oh and please visit our website.

I have a son in 8th grade. He has went to Westport since the 6th grade. He is ADHD. They took him out of his ADHD class and put him in regular classes. He is not doing good now. Can't wait until he graduates. So I don't have to deal with this school anymore. The teachers explain once on homework and thats it. You don't ask questions after they tell you what to do. They won't help them at all. I would not send my child to this school if I did not have to.

My child hates Westport. This school is the worstest school she ever went to. The teachers use profanity language. I think that the principle really dosent care about that school I think she there just to get pay. On the 1st day my child came home with a bruis arm. The school is so dirty. If I was you dont send your child to Westport.

My Daughter loves Westport Middle school- I heard alot of negative things about Westport from other parents and belived until my daughter attended... Westport is a bad school if you are bad because they don't put up with it! Westport is a good school if you are a good student. The teachers are very great and the extracurricular activities are plentiful. I am very glad I chose Westport. I spoke to the principal regarding rumors and concerns and they were all addressed promptly.

My daughter just spent a year at Westport Middle School and it was the worst school experience she s ever had. The information published about Westport in the Jefferson County Public Schools guide is misleading if not downright fraudulent. There are some highly-qualified and dedicated teachers at Westport, but there is a real lack of leadership and communication from the administration. Parental involvement is nearly nonexistent, most likely due to lack of information. I encountered at least one 8th grade student who couldn t even read. Towards the end of the year, my daughter s entire team of several classes was placed on lock down (a term I had always associated with prison) due to discipline problems in another class. During this time, students were restricted to homeroom and advanced students were denied access to Advanced Program classes. I would not recommend Westport Middle School to anyone.

The Westport Middle School faculty says it is a good school, but they are the worst school I have ever sent my child to. Some kids at this school can not even read. I am going to switch my child to Oldham County Schools. They are much better. if you read this and are thinking about sending your kid to Westport, I advise you not to.
