Southern Leadership Academy Reviews

I am a mother of 2 children that have had the miseducation of SLA. The teachers are poor teachers. What good does it do to complain on line? We need to complain to the school board.

Southern is dirty, it's poor. The 7th grade girls only went on one feild trip and only the first fifty could go, and I think that is not fair to others. To me they did not try there best to work with most of us. They don't let us go to the restrooms after lunh we have to go befor lunch, and most kids dont have to use the restrooms be fore lunch they really have to go after lunch. I really dont like how there separated because that makes us girls want to skip to see boys. Southern leader ship academy is unsafe kids are runing around constily every day. When mr.Perkins the princibal says on the intercon 'teacher and staff! don't let any student out of the class room for any thing unless it is an emergency!' the teachers don't listen and this go for the 7th grade teachers

I have to agree with the woman below me, if you care at all about the well being of your child and the quality of education that your child is receiving, please think twice before you subject your child to this school. The ONLY bright spot in this school is that the youth counselor, Mr 'D' is more devoted to these kids then ANY of the teachers seem to be. We have gone as far as buying a house in another area just to get then out!

If you are any kind of parent at ALL run from this place as fast as you can! I have been in nearly every school in Jefferson county as well as 90% of the schools in the state and have never had things stolen, until I went to SLA. I saw an OUT OF CONTROL lunch room and extremely unruly unsafe hallways. On commencement day there were armed off duty Corrections Officers posted at the doors wanding the entrants. Sadly the officers knew most attending by name. Please visit the school and make up your own mind. For the two that gave great reviews I feel sad and sorry for them and their children. This is NOT what a school is supposed to be.

This is among the worst schools in Jefferson County. This is a boxing academy rather than a leadership academy. Changing the name of your school to sound studious, does not change the standards in the school. Students that want an education should try another school.

Southern has really grown since they have instituted the school-wide behavior management plan and initiated the literacy program where all students have a mimimum of 90 minutes of literacy. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in the school. The extracurricular opportunities have been increased. There is now a band, orchestra and chorus that was not there prior to the current principal taking the position at Southern.

I think that this is the very best school to send your child. My child has attended this school since the sixth grade and he loves it.

This is by far the saddest excuse I have ever seen for a school. All boys are taught on the second level of the building by only male teachers, all girls are taught on the first level by only female teachers. The teachers have no control whatsoever over the students. My daughter sits for the first 3 hours of the day in her class doing nothing, while the other kids run around and yell. There are a lot of fights, alot of racial slurs in all directions. The students cuss out the teachers and they do nothing about it. The kids are esctorted from class to class because things are so bad. The kids run the school, period. Your child will not learn here. Their test scores are low so opt your child out of here if you care about them!

This must be the worst school in the state of Kentucky. There are fights on a daily basis and the teachers and principle do not even try to help innocent bystanders. The police have to take kids out of there quite often. When my granddaughters glasses were ripped off her face and twisted in half by another student, the principle did absolutely nothing to the student, however, when my granddaughter finally decided to stand up for herself and was caught calling another student a name (something we do not approve of) her father was given the option of picking her up or she could stay in detention all day. It seems they would rather teach the kids that fighting is the only way to make it in this world.
