South Oldham Middle School Reviews

I had concerns about my child at this school. The principal and staff talked at me regarding these concerns-I couldn't get one word in. I would like it better if they listened to me and my child more and defended their school a bit less (and tried not to undermine me in the process). I too am not a fan of the student led conferences. I got no one-on-one time with the teachers. I have had some bad experiences with my child being bullied. I think these problems can be managed but as a parent I've had to get heavily involved in order for my child to have a decent experience there. There is much room for improvement.

South Oldham Middle School is a great place with many opportunities for the students. It's a healthy, comfortable environment that's easy to learn in. The staff and teachers are amazing! It's really a place i don't mind going to almost every morning :) It's an excellent school, and every student deserves it. :) GO SOUTH!

It's a good school, great teachers that actually give you the attention you need. I've attended South for a year now, and love it for the most part. :)

Our family is new to the whole middle school scene. So far SOMS seems to be pretty good. The Retriever teachers are really good responding to any concerns sent via email. The office staff for the most part is pretty friendly and helpful. My child has been involved in 3 different sports, 2 of the 3 were very unorganized w/ very little communication which is very disappointing and frustrating. I really don't like the 'student led conferences' I feel it is a waste of time and doesn't give parents much 1on 1 time to speak with the teachers. I really don't know any more than I do prior to the conference. As with any school there are pros and cons.

I think that south is a great school, because my kid loves it and dose not want to go to high school. Also they have a great education and so i dont have to worrie about my kid not getting into collage.

This is the first year I have a daughter at the SOMS. She seems to love it. Teachers seem to be ok. My daughter says the students do use bad language and their is bulling. I do wish they would do more about this. It seems to bother my daughter. Over all its no different than any other middle school. I have heard complaints about the teachers as well. More negative than positive. The parents are very involved, I think this is what really helps the school system.

this school is amazing and deserves a 10 out of 10

SOMS is a fantastic school. The staff and teachers are very dedicated to the success of the children. My kids love their teachers but hate all the homework - especially in 6th grade. The teachers spend a lot of extra time after school to help the children who are struggling or just want to jump ahead. There is great parent involvement, but every school can always use more. This school gets an A from our family!

The quality of academic programs could be upscaled more. Seems to be more focus on overall stats than individual teaching. Need more push to go beyond the status quo. The Band has a great program and the sports are good for the kids. Parents support the students and the school. The biggest drawback is the bulling especially the verbal putdowns. More discipline is needed and more respect to each other needs to be shown.

South Oldham Middle School is an above average school. The student body and teachers take great pride in this school and school spirit. My children love this school. There is a variety of extra-curricular activities for the students to become involved with the school and each one encourages the children to do their best. Even my father-in-law stated that they (the children) are 'getting a real good education here at South Oldham.' Go SOMS!

This school is too overcrowded and unable to support children with learning disabilities. My son has trouble learning and they have been unable to provide it. The staff and Administrators make several suggestions but never follow through with them. Instead he has spent more time in detention for not understanding or completing the work correctly. I have met with several other parents that agree. For other children without learning disabilities, I am unable to comment.

This is a very great school. I went there when I was a child and loved it. My child had a great experience. They have great teachers and students.
